Please help!
I need advice from any fellow Canadians out there!
We seem to be hitting brick walls trying to have my seven year old diagnosed.
I believe he has Aspergers Syndrome.
After being told by a special education teacher at my sons school that she believed my son needed additional help at school (O.T.) and speech therapy I had some red flags go off.
I always knew my son was special but never realized it might hinder his education and make him a target for bullying.
I decided to take him to our family MD and wrote a list of everything that concerned me.
Our family MD refered us to a pediatrician who after we waited months to see told me he was not qualified to diagnose autism?????!
He also said that in Canada the scoolboard special educaters make the diagnosis.
I am planning on calling the school, but am wondering why my sons teacher and special ed teacher wouldn't have told me this months ago ( especially his teacher who sees him struggle every day).
The Doc we saw today wanted to put him on meds and diagnose him with ADD!!
Please help!
